Lonquimay Emergency: Giving Water Back to the Mapuche Pehuenche People
A cry from the heart from the field
Melipeuco, January 24 2026 — « I have just returned from Lonquimay, and what I saw there is an injustice that cannot continue."
On 23 January, H.R.H. Prince Antoine V, Honorary President of the NGO Order of the South Star, visited the heart of the Pehuenche communities to see the scale of a silent humanitarian crisis.
The observation: 50 liters to survive
In Lonquimay, families survive on 50 litres of water per person per day. This is barely half of the minimum subsistence recommended by international standards.
The communal pump has been broken for seven years. For seven years, government promises have been a dead letter. Communities depend on private tankers, delivering expensive and poor quality water.
Why this shortage?
This is not just a technical breakdown, it is the result of a century of spoliation:
- Environmental degradation: The massive introduction of contorta and ponderosa pine trees (Decree No. 701) has dried up the soil.
- Historical injustice: The Pehuenches, ancestral guardians of the Araucaria forests, are now deprived of the most basic resource: life.
Our Mission: Repairing the Lonquimay Pump
The objective is clear and immediate: to raise €50,000 to finance major repairs to the pumping infrastructure and restore sustainable access to drinking water.
Your donation directly affects:
- Replacement of the failed pumping system.
- Securing supplies for cattle drinking and irrigation.
- Food sovereignty of the communities of Lonquimay.
I support the action in Lonquimay

« The history of the Kingdom of Araucania and Patagonia is no longer only written in books, it is now written on the ground, alongside you. By sharing this page and supporting our actions in Lonquimay, you are breaking the silence that weighs on the Mapuche people and giving life to a diplomacy of concrete solidarity.
