1 - Historical Origins and Foundations

1. When and by whom was the Kingdom founded?

The Kingdom was officially established at a large national assembly, the Futa Kollog, on November 17, 1860. The assembly concluded with the approval of the Constitution and the proclamation of Orelia Antoine de Tounens as King of Araucania and Patagonia.

 2. Why a King of French origin and not Mapuche?

Orélie Antoine was a lawyer and had demonstrated a deep commitment to Mapuche independence. He possessed the diplomatic skills needed to effectively present Mapuche aspirations to Europe, seeking international support and recognition.

3.3 Why was the monarchical system adopted?

The constitutional monarchical system was deemed more harmonious with the traditional Mapuche social organization and offered a stable alternative to the neighboring republics (Chile and Argentina) considered unstable and disloyal.

 4. Why is this historic event still relevant?

The event has the same historical importance and legal validity as the declaration of independence for neighbouring states. The adoption of the 1860 constitution reaffirmed Mapuche independence and legitimized it under international law.

2 - Statutes and Territory

1. Is the Kingdom a micro-nation?

No. It is a legitimately constituted kingdom that was illegally annexed (by a war of extermination and occupation between 1861 and 1885). Its independence was recognized by several nations and its population is estimated at 1.8 million Mapuche citizens.

 2. How could it have been created in Chilean/Argentine territories?

In 1860, Mapuche territory was neither Chilean nor Argentine. Spain had given up conquering it after the Treaty of Killen (1641), which established a border recognized by 28 subsequent bilateral treaties.

3. What is the claimed territory?

The territory stretched from the Bío-Bío (Chile) and Colorado (Argentina) rivers to the southernmostmost part of the Southern Cone. The Kingdom has not renounced its sovereign rights.

4. Why does the current Sovereign live in Europe?

The founding king was persecuted after the occupation and forced into exile in France, where he established a government-in-exile.

5. Has the Kingdom been recognised by other states?

Yes. Research indicates formal recognition by Spain, Britain, France, etc., and de facto by other countries.

3 - Governance, Succession and Protocol

1. How is monarchical succession ensured ?

The constitution provides that succession is ensured by the Regency Council (composed of members of the Council of State and the Council of the Kingdom), which manages administrative affairs and is empowered to elect the successor (as was the case for Prince Anthony V).

2. How to greet Prince Antoine V ?

There is no need for a bow. The Prince wishes to be greeted as the Mapuche greet each other: "Marri marri peñi" ("brother, I greet you ten times").

3. Can you buy a noble title or a royal order ?

No. Royal securities and orders cannot be purchased. They are awarded only to those who have distinguished themselves in defending the rights of the Mapuche people and the Royal Household.

4. Can I obtain the nationality of the Kingdom?

There is no timetable for its current implementation. Although claimed by some, it would for the moment have only symbolic validity.

5. How to contact the Kingdom?

The Kingdom currently has neither consuls nor ambassadors. Contacts must be made through the channels indicated on the official website of the Royal Household.
