Kingdoms in Exile and Human Rights
On 19 and 20 September 2026, Prince Antoine V of Araucania brought together more than 60 participants in Bath, United Kingdom, for the international weekend "Kingdoms in Exile and Human Rights." Organised by the Kingdom of Araucania and Patagonia, the event placed the Mapuche cause, Wallmapu, the rights of indigenous peoples and cultural heritage at the centre of two days of meetings, debates and international exchanges.
Saturday 19 September 2026: Fairfield House, a historic site of exile
The programme began on Saturday 19 September at Fairfield House, one of Bath's most iconic historical sites and former residence of Emperor Haile Selassie I during his exile in the United Kingdom.
Upon arrival, H.R.H. Prince Anthony V of Araucania was welcomed for a private tour of Fairfield House, before the official programme began. This visit allowed the Prince to discover the history and memory of this place intimately linked to the history of the Ethiopian imperial exile.
The evening continued with the dinner-debate "Kingdoms in Exile and Human Rights," bringing together more than 60 participants, including representatives of the Ethiopian and Rastafari communities, academics, cultural personalities, human rights defenders and actors involved in people-to-people dialogue.
Discussions included exile, historical memory, people's rights, cultural heritage and the challenges faced by indigenous communities. The historical and cultural situation of the Mapuche and Wallmapu peoples was central to the discussions.
Sunday 20 September 2026: the Guildhall in Bath and the dialogue around the Mapuche people
On Sunday 20 September 2026, the programme continued at the Guildhall in Bath, in the prestigious Council Chamber.
This second day allowed to continue the exchanges around the Mapuche cause, the history of Wallmapu, the rights of indigenous peoples and cultural heritage.
The public attended the screening of the film Inarumen, directed by Agnès Biscaichipy, before several interventions and exchanges devoted to the history, culture and rights of indigenous peoples.
The day at Guildhall was also marked by a ceremony of distinctions. Professor Shawn Sobers of UWE Bristol received a distinction from the Kingdom of Araucania and Patagonia, awarded by Prince Antoine V. This distinction was then officially published by UWE Bristol.
Prince Antoine V of Araucania and the internationalisation of the Mapuche cause
Through the weekend "Kingdoms in Exile and Human Rights," Prince Antoine V of Araucania wanted to create a space for international dialogue around the Mapuche cause and Wallmapu.
The meeting in Bath brought together participants from different cultures, communities and backgrounds to promote exchanges around human rights, indigenous peoples, historical memory and cultural heritage.
For the Kingdom of Araucania and Patagonia, this initiative is part of an effort to strengthen international knowledge of the history, culture and heritage of the Mapuche people, as well as historical links associated with Araucania and Wallmapu.
Fairfield House and Guildhall: two iconic venues for Bath 2026
The choice of Fairfield House and then the Guildhall in Bath gave the weekend a special historical and institutional dimension.
From the memory of the Ethiopian imperial exile at Fairfield House to the contemporary dialogue on indigenous peoples and human rights at Guildhall, the two days brought together history, culture, heritage and international dialogue.
On 19 and 20 September 2026 in Bath, this marks a new stage in the international action of Prince Antoine V of Araucania and the Kingdom of Araucania and Patagonia in favour of the visibility of the Mapuche cause and Wallmapu.
